About The Sunday Night Revue

The Event

What began as just a weekly folk show featuring songwriters at Irene’s Pub in Ottawa’s Glebe neighborhood has grown into a cherished gathering for local and visiting folk music lovers alike.

Every Sunday night, The Sunday Night Revue brings together a cast of talented Ottawa musicians—including Birdie Whyte, Sonny Aiken, C.A. Jackson, Sal, Marc Albert, and Nik Field—who share the stage and a barroom table, welcoming the crowd to become part of the show. Led by Birdie Whyte as MC, each musician adds their unique voice, style, and humor to the evening, creating a “family style” experience filled with singing, dancing, games, prizes, and general hokum. With free admission, friendly bartenders, and delicious eats, The Revue has become a true Sunday staple in Ottawa for folk enthusiasts.

Expanding Beyond Sundays: A Platform for Touring Folk Acts

Since 2022, The Revue has blossomed into a key stop for touring folk musicians. We regularly invite Featured Acts to join our Sunday lineup, and many of them stay on for a weekend of music and connection, performing at house concerts and C.A. & Sonny’s brunch show. These intimate house concerts, complete with a “family style” meal and often capped off with a jam session, create memorable moments between musicians and the community. By welcoming these talented acts, we continue to strengthen the Revue as a vibrant hub for folk music in Ottawa.

The Band

The Sunday Night Revue wouldn’t be the same without the talent and camaraderie of the musicians who make up The Revue. Birdie’s poetic banjo songs set the tone, while Sonny’s guitar, CA’s mandolin and tenor banjo, Sal’s harmonica, Marc’s fiddle, and Nik’s lap steel add layers of sonic richness that give the Revue its signature folk sound. Together, they playfully heckle, cheer, and encourage each other, making shows feel like a close-knit living room jam. The vibe is unmistakably warm and welcoming, with an open invitation for anyone to join in on the fun.

The Community

Over the years, the Revue has become a home for folk music lovers, creating a genuine community. In 2024, we launched The Revue – A Folk Music Spectacle, a theatre show that brought the spirit of our Sunday gatherings to a larger stage at The Great Canadian Theatre Company, and recorded our first album, scheduled for release in 2025.

Each event, house concert, and Featured Act gathering strengthens this Revue community—a blend of artists, music lovers, and folks who appreciate good people and great songs. We’re here for the folk music, the laughs, the memories, and most of all, the chance to share it all with you.
